Cadence Selah Cheng

Dearest family and friends,

We are overjoyed to welcome our daughter, 程恩芳, Cadence Selah Cheng, into the world. She was born on Sunday, August 5th, 2007 at 6:27 pm, weighs 8 lbs and 15 oz and is 21 inches long. She is healthy, happy, and beautiful just like her mom. Cadence has been sleeping soundly during the day but likes to wake up at night. She’s having some trouble eating however and falls asleep even during meal times. Grandmas, Aunties, and Uncles were very happy to witness Cadence’s first hours of life.

Please pray for Cadence’s health, mom’s rest and recovery, and grandpa’s recovery from his lung collapse (Julian’s dad has been at another hospital for over 1 month). Baby Cadence and Grandpa are greatly looking forward to meeting each other.

Meaning of her name
Julie and I are very blessed and thankful for our lives

  • Loving and supportive families, friends, collegues, companies, communities
  • Freedom and opportunities we have in our country to make a difference in this world
  • God who loves, cares, leads us in our lives

It’s been 2 years since we got married and throughout the whole time we continue to be blessed and experience God’s faithfulness and love. In following Chinese tradition, our daughter's Chinese name and meanings were chosen by Julian's dad

  • - Cheng2 (a last name - process, way)
  • - En1 (grace, kindness)
  • - Fang1 (fragrance)
The meaning behind her name tells of God's grace and mercy on our lives. Even in the midst of hard times and struggles we still know how blessed we are and try to give pour back to the world the blessings we've experienced. We hope that our baby, 程恩芳, will have a similar passion to show kindness and grace to those around.

We named our daughter's English name
  • Cadence (meaning rhythmic flow of music or words) - it is our hope that her life will be full of joy and she will continually sing, praise, and tell of the love and goodness that she's received from her family and from God
  • Selah (Hebrew סלה meaning reverent pause and reflection) comes from the Psalms and is a reminder that while our lives continue on, we should thankfully pause and reflect on our lives, God’s faithfulness and character.
We’re looking forward to this great honor and responsibility that we've been given to raise up our precious child. Cadence is looking forward to getting to know her new home & family and to meeting you all someday.

Love,
Julie, Julian, and Baby Cadence

Psalm 139:13-18
I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made;
       your works are wonderful,
       I know that full well.

My frame was not hidden from you
       when I was made in the secret place.
       When I was woven together in the depths of the earth,

your eyes saw my unformed body.
       All the days ordained for me
       were written in your book
       before one of them came to be.

How precious to me are your thoughts, O God!
       How vast is the sum of them!

Were I to count them,
       they would outnumber the grains of sand.
       When I awake,
       I am still with you.

Psalm 67
May God be gracious to us and bless us
       and make his face shine upon us,
Selah

that your ways may be known on earth,
       your salvation among all nations.

May the peoples praise you, O God;
       may all the peoples praise you.

May the nations be glad and sing for joy,
       for you rule the peoples justly
       and guide the nations of the earth.
Selah

May the peoples praise you, O God;
       may all the peoples praise you.

Then the land will yield its harvest,
       and God, our God, will bless us.

God will bless us,
       and all the ends of the earth will fear him.

Please excuse Julie's hairstyle. After all day of pushing, your hair would look like Tina Turner's too.
